Dear Members and Friends of CBC,

I hope this message finds you in good spirits as we kick off the summer season. Serving as the President of CBC has truly been an honor, and I’m thrilled to kick off our inaugural newsletter!

Our goal at CBC has always been to foster a vibrant community within Connecticut’s architecture, engineering, and construction industry. We recognize the value of knowledge sharing, networking, and professional growth, and that’s precisely what this newsletter aims to deliver.

In our newsletters, we will update you on what CBC is doing to support our members and our industry. From past and upcoming events to scholarship updates and member spotlights, this newsletter will keep you informed. We understand that your time is valuable, so we’ve structured our newsletters to be issued quarterly.

28th Annual Project Team Awards & Scholarship

In June, CBC celebrated exemplary building projects that demonstrated exceptional teamwork and best practices. These projects showcased the collaborative efforts of project owners, architects, engineers, constructors, and trades, setting a high standard for excellence in the industry. It was a memorable night, made even more special as we also honored our scholarship recipients, celebrating their achievements and promising futures.

CBC addressed a critical topic on May 14th, 2024, with their event “Construction Wellness: Fostering Brain Health within the AEC Industry.” Recognizing the demanding nature of the Architecture,Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector, the event aimed to equip leaders with strategies to support the mental and cognitive well-being of their teams.

CBC hosted “Innovative Construction in the Digital Age” on April 9th, 2024. This event featured a presentation by Hugh Seaton, CEO of The Link and author of “The Construction Technology Handbook:Making Sense of Artificial Intelligence and Beyond.”

Project Showcase: The Great Wolf Lodge

In March, attendees got a behind-the-scenes look at Connecticut’s largest construction project, The Great Wolf Lodge at Foxwoods, learning about its sustainable features and the challenges of such a large undertaking. Key highlights of the event included: early progress updates, challenges and solutions, sustainability focus, as well as networking opportunities.

How Healthy is the Healthcare Market?

The CBC Healthcare Forum on February 15th offered a unique perspective on the state of healthcare in New England. The event focused on the outpatient experience, exploring its similarities and differences to traditional inpatient care. Discussions delved into the strategic and implementation aspects of outpatient services, highlighting their role in the overall financial health of healthcare systems.

The January 16th CBC event, “Repurposing Higher-Ed Campuses”, offered a timely discussion on how colleges and universities in Connecticut are adapting to a changing landscape. The event centered around the concept of repurposing existing campus infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of students, faculty, and the broader community.

This November, we guided our guests on a tour of the new Johnson Memorial Cancer Center, showcasing the collaborative approach that made this project a success. Following the tour, we headed over to Wood N Tap, where the intimate atmosphere and great food created an excellent chance for our guests to connect.

Meet the Board Fall Social 

Our annual ‘Meet the Board’ Fall Social kicked off the year in style at the stunning Millpond Gatherings Steakhouse. Set against the backdrop of this beautiful venue, members and guests mingled with the board, fostering connections and setting the tone for a year of collaboration and growth. It was a delightful evening, blending warmth, good conversation, and the promise of exciting events ahead.

CBC Scholarship Fund 

The Connecticut Building Congress Scholarship Fund is dedicated to supporting the future leaders of the architecture, engineering, and construction industries. Each year, we offer scholarships to graduating Connecticut high school students who are entering college-level programs in architecture, construction-related engineering, construction management, surveying, planning, or other courses of study leading to associate, baccalaureate, or masters degrees in the construction field.

This year, we had the pleasure of celebrating our three scholarship winners: Ava Aubé, Mia Annino, and Amber Murphy. These exceptional students have demonstrated remarkable dedication, talent, and potential in their chosen fields.
