The Linden at Brookfield | Brookfield, CT

The Linden at Brookfield is a new 105,592 sf, 3-story senior living community in Brookfield, CT. While the project delivery method was ostensibly Construction Management at Risk, the challenges posed by using a new-to-the-team prefabricated structural system ended up creating a design-build scenario with the owner, architect, engineers, suppliers, trade contractors, and the construction team. The team worked diligently to solve the normal construction challenges, such as coordination between the structure and the building systems. These would have been simple solutions with standard construction, but the unique aspects of the panelized system demanded a more creative approach.

As the entire country shut down with the coronavirus pandemic, the lines of communication among all team members remained open. Through teamwork alone, we were able to complete this project in just 9 months. “We wish all our projects ran this smoothly.”

Rowland Technology Addition / Expansion / Renovation | Wallingford, CT

A specialty manufacturer of high-performance plastic films, Rowland runs its Wallingford operations 24/7 to meet world-wide demand. This project involved renovating 50,000 sf of their existing manufacturing facility and a 37,000 sf addition/expansion of their warehouse and offices. Shutting down their operations during any phase of construction was not an option. Making that happen required long and short-term planning, shifting resources as needed, and constant communication (daily/weekly) between the owner, architect, subconsultants and suppliers. Even with Covid-19 arriving midway through construction, Milestone guided and orchestrated a team effort that delivered on-time and never-interrupted operations.

The Infusion Center serves children who need intravenous treatments multiple times a week for months or potentially years. The design evokes the feeling of exploration as you enter under a tree canopy. This motif is extended into the ‘tent’ and ‘camper’ treatment rooms. With a color-changing base and curved screens the towering tree is the focal point of the virtual world where patients create an avatar and explore. The project was awarded one week before its start date and many items had lead times that would delay the schedule. The team found alternatives to preserve the design and 17-week schedule.
