CBC DISCUSSED TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT LAST NIGHT

MERIDEN, CT – CBC members and guests gathered last night in the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center to discuss transit-oriented development opportunities along the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield “Knowledge Corridor”. The location of last night’s event was in the renovated original public library in Meriden. It is a half mile from Meriden’s train station which is poised for redevelopment.

Sarah Lewis of Fuss & O’Neill, Inc. began the conversation with an historical perspective on Urbanism and Transit-Oriented Development and how it has been around since ancient times while segueing into contemporary efforts to focus development around transportation and urban hubs. Mary Ellen Kowalewski (AICP, Director of Policy Planning, Capitol Region Council of Governments), Lawrence Kendzior (City Manager, City of Meriden), and Patrick McMahon (Development Director, Town of Windsor Locks) continued the conversation by providing their own perspectives and detailing plans for the “Knowledge Corridor” development. John Hankins of Fuss & O’Neill, Inc. moderated.

CBC’s April program will feature a discussion on doing business with the State of Connecticut in the wake of the UConn Law Library State Supreme Court decision exempting the state from any statutes of limitations and allowing it to pursue claims against design and construction firms several years after project competion. The program will be held on April 24th in Hartford.
